Personal History | Tsubaki was born in Japan in the city of Osaka. As a child she was always close to her friends. Her grades were always good and she was an excellent student in her elementary school days. When she was eight years old she and one of her friends were playing and fell down a hill, rolling over each other. Because of this she broke her ankle in three places, and her friend had a twisted knee. She carried him home, even though she had a broken ankle and put up with the pain. It was this encounter when she became fascinated with helping others and assisting with them. She however was scolded badly by her mother and father for hurting herself and making it worse. Throughout school she was known for working hard and putting effort into her subjects. She also was very kind and caring to others. Boys joked about how she had never had a boyfriend, but didn't ask her out as she was seen as "Out of their league". During her middle school years Tsubaki became interested in Softball. She began to play nearly everyday and enjoyed the feeling of her muscles moving and gripping the bat, she felt powerful and the burn in her lungs was an amazing feeling for her. By high school she had become her school's Softball Captain and loved being in command of the team. She had also decided that one day she would go into the medical field. She had secretly been studying hard to get into the Tokyo University Medical School. High school was a rough time for Tsubaki as she started to fall in love with her old childhood friend Kousei Arima. Kousei was interested in music, especially piano and was a fantastic pianist. Tsubaki had grown up with him living next door to him all her life, and she wasn't sure of her feelings. She eventually introduced him to Kaori Miyazono, a classmate who wanted to meet Kousei. What Tsubaki didn't predict was that Kousei started to fall for Kaori, as she was a violinist and they began to work together. She eventually realised her feelings far too late, she felt heartbroken and alone. Even though she admitted her feelings to Kousei, he didn't return them as he had seen her more as best friend than a romantic interest. Plus, he had already begun a relationship with Kaori. This broke poor young Tsubaki's heart, so to distract herself she dived head first into her studies and career ambitions. Tsubaki graduated High School at age eighteen and applied for several Universities. She was overjoyed when he was accepted into the Tokyo University Medical School on their Medical course. Her university years were good for Tsubaki as she spent the next four years training as a junior doctor. She excelled at several medical subjects, and found a particular passion for paediatrics. She enjoyed working with children that were in hospital and specialised in paediatric medicine. After four years at the University she graduated with a First Class Medical Degree. The road to becoming a full doctor however was not over. She had her Medical Degree but she still needed to complete two years of a medical foundation to earn the full Medical Doctor status. She began to apply at various clinics and surgeries across Japan, however there was an influx of Doctors so she didn't get any. After exhausting all of her options she looked oversees and it was suggested that she could apply at Starfleet. Tsubaki was shocked to hear that Starfleet would be happy to have her. She soon found herself in San Francisco, working at Starfleet Medical. She had also been given the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade due to her University Degree. She enjoyed working in Starfleet Medical, especially with different species and people. Eventually she was visited by Captain Paulson, the current head of the Starfleet Medical Complex. She had completed her Medical Foundation and was now considered a full doctor and had an interesting career in front of her. He explained to her that she could now become a doctor on a starship if she wanted. She could make a difference off of Earth and help others out there. Paulson also explained that one day she would make an excellent commander of people and he could easily see her commanding a Medical Ship or Installation one day. Tsubaki considered his advice for several weeks and finally had an answer, she would take that big step and walk out into space. At age twenty four, Lieutenant Junior Grade Tsubaki Sawabe stepped aboard the USS Fubuki as a junior medical officer. The USS Fubuki named after the destroyer IJS Fubuki fascinated Tsubaki as she remembered the name from her history lessons. This began her fascination with Japanese Naval history, especially in World War Two. For some reason she enjoyed researching the ships and the battles. As a medical officer she worked hard aboard the Fubuki for the next three years. When she was Twenty Seven she earned the rank of Full Lieutenant and was offered the rank of Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Dragon, one of Starfleets Galaxy Class Starships. She took the offer and transferred to the Dragon. She loved her job aboard the Dragon and enjoyed the feeling of running a department. She found the fact that she was in command of the entire crews medical and health needs oddly satisfying. However after a year as the CMO on the Dragon she recieved some bad news. Captain Paulson back at Starfleet Medical had unfortuntely passed away. She spent the next few days thinking about what he had said. She thought about how he told her she would one day make an excellent commander and could see her running a medical ship or facility. It stayed at the back of her mind, it was always there bugging her as if it was pushing her along. Eventually she decided to talk to the captain about the strange feelings she had. The captain of the Dragon assured her that everything was going to be alright and that one day she would get there. She accepted that fact. Another two years passed and the Captain of the Dragon surprised her on her 30th birthday with a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. It was then that Tsubaki recieved some bad news. Her old friend whom she had helped carry home as a child, Kousei Arima told her that his wife, and also Tsubaki's friend Kaori Miyazono had contracted a mysterious illness and wasn't expected to live very long. Shocked and wanting to help, Tsubaki took a leave of absence from Starfleet to return home to see if she could do anything to help. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she worked looking for a cure. The next two years were very rough for Tsubaki, as she battled with her feelings that had resurfaced from her teenage years. She hadn't been this close with Kousei for such a long time and her heart began to ache again, however she didn't want to be selfish and knew this was about saving Kaori. Bad news came roughly sixteen months later when Kaori was submitted to a civilian hospital in Osaka for surgery to help save her life. Tsubaki wasn't allowed to assist in the surgery, although she had wanted to. Kaori unfortnately didn't make it through the surgery and was declared deceased after a failed surgical operation. This broke poor Kousei's heart and caused him to have a mental breakdown at losing the love of his life. Kousei and Kaori never had any children due to her not being able to conceive, which was a side effect of her long term illness. Saddened by the death of Kaori, Tsubaki stayed around to help Kousei feel better. One night however, both of them were trying to grieve and ended up having far too much to drink. Tsubaki, in her drunk state and with old teenage feelings made a bad choice that night. A very very very bad choice. She made the 'moves' on her old friend without really thinking about what she was doing. The next morning, she woke up next to him in his bed after 'doing the deed'. She was ashamed and appauled at her actions. She snuck out of his bed and moved to the sofa. When Kousei came down, he had no recollection of what had happened. Tsubaki lied to him, saying that she had slept downstairs and he had slept in the bed; even though she clearly remembered everything, even if he was calling Kaori's name instead of hers. She knew she needed to get away, so after ensuring that Kousei was well cared for she returned back to Starfleet. She was assigned back to Starfleet Medical temporarily until a spac position could be found. It was a few weeks later she began to feel unwell and then she realised that she had accidently fallen pregnant with Kousei's child. Tsubaki was faced with a moral decision. She could tell him what had happened and how she felt still, but risk dishonouring Kaori. Or she could live with her shame, and not tell her, thus protecting her memory. She chose to live with it and after just under seven months she found a far away assignment, on Starbase Pegasus as the new Chief Medical Officer. A safe starbase, far enough from Kousei so she could have his child in secret and still safely raise a child whilst in Starfleet Service. She has yet to talk to anyone about what has happened, when people ask her about the father of her unborn baby, she only tells tham it was a one night stand and a mistake, but she is going to live with it regardless as she can't warrant hurting an innocent life due to her own stupidity. |
